About me

Hello, this is the little gremlin that lives behind your screen and rushes around setting up all the letters so you can read these words. Just kidding, I’m a human person! I’m a writer, artist, and music devotee, and this website exists because I’m working on a book that has been quietly boiling on the very back-most burner of my brain for quite some time. You can learn more about that here.

In the meantime, here is a bio written in the third person in order to convey a sense of greater objectivity and professionalism.

Rachel is quite able to catch fireflies and subsequently release them. A Chesapeake native, Rachel attended college in Maryland, studying anthropology, Spanish, and creative writing; she also participated in a long-running oral history project and helped organize an annual community literacy event. Rachel once leaped off a bridge wearing a harness connected to long ropes. She was a staff member at National Geographic for five years, where she eventually worked as a producer, writer, and editor on the travel desk. Rachel took half a decade to design her first tattoo. During her time at National Geographic, she received three awards from the National Travel Journalists Association, the Rising Star Award from the International Federation of Periodical Publishers, and a ribbon from a friend declaring her the World’s Nicest Person. She has also contributed a chapter to the Stargazer’s Atlas, a forthcoming book from National Geographic. The sight of Saturn’s rings through a telescope once brought her to tears. On rare occasions, she shares photos and collages on the internet. Rachel enjoys the hiking, mountain views, and top-notch restaurants of her home in Tucson, Arizona, where she lives with two partners, three cats, and a three-legged dog.
